Egyptian Police Officer Shoots Dead 2 Israelis, 1 Egyptian

A police officer opened fire on Israeli tourists Sunday in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, killing two Israelis and one Egyptian.

A fourth person was wounded in the incident.

The police officer who allegedly carried out the attack was apprehended.

According to an Egyptian security source cited by Reuters, policeman said he lost control and fired randomly on the tourist group after being provoked.

The killings came amid the surprise attack on Israel by Hamas militants.

Egypt and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1979 but anti-Israel sentiment runs high in Egypt, especially during bouts of Israeli-Palestinian violence.
